While we’ve been hard at work e-proofing the book, we received some exciting news...
SHIFT is nominated for an ENNIE Award!
The SHIFT Basic Rules booklet is nominated for Best Free Game / Product in the 2026 ENNIE Awards, and voting is now live! For folks who don’t know, the ENNIEs are the biggest awards in tabletop and winners are decided by public vote. We’re honored that our first original system and indie game has been recognized by the wider tabletop scene. If you’ve enjoyed SHIFT, we’d appreciate your support!
Voting is open now until July 19. Winners are announced at Gen Con on Friday, July 31. Click here to vote!
How to vote
1. Navigate to the voting site here.
2. Click on the category you want to vote in.
3. Find your favorite product and select “1” from the drop-down menu beneath its name.
4. Find your second-favorite product and select “2” from the drop-down menu beneath its name.
5. Repeat in sequence until you have ranked your favorites in order. You don’t need to rank every entry in order to vote.
6. Click “Submit.” You’ve now voted in that category!

We hope you’re staying cool if you are experiencing warmer weather!
Read on for a brief project update and an announcement of an exciting event!
Project Progress
We’d like to thank those of you who have written in with feedback and whose shrewd eyes caught some pesky typos! We’re currently e-proofing the book and making small tweaks to prepare it for the printers. We also expect to start on samples soon, and we’ll be sure to share pictures of those when they come in.
Play SHIFT with StartPlaying!
We’re excited to partner with StartPlaying for Play SHIFT RPG, an event packed with SHIFT games for the month of July! No experience with SHIFT is needed to play. These games are run by StartPlaying’s professional GMs, some of whom are familiar faces from our Organized Play GM program and members of the SHIFT community!
We’re pleased to offer a mix of free and paid games. If you’d like to join a paid game, use the code SHIFTRPG to get $15 off! This discount is good for the entire month of July and is valid for any new user to StartPlaying on any game of SHIFT RPG!

What is StartPlaying?
StartPlaying is a platform where you can find professional game masters and fellow players. It’s like Airbnb for games: instead of struggling to find a reliable group or an available DM, you can browse hundreds of listed games, filter by your schedule and preferred virtual tabletops (VTTs) and book a seat.
What’s the difference between this event and the monthly Organized Play games held in the SHIFT RPG Discord server?
The Play SHIFT RPG event replaces the regular Organized Play games for the month of July. This event is held in partnership with StartPlaying, which means games are listed on their platform instead of in the SHIFT Discord server. A wider range of games are available, and these games are public.
Is Play SHIFT RPG free to join?
On StartPlaying, each GM is able to set the price of a seat at their table. We’re pleased to offer a mix of free and paid games. Use the code SHIFTRPG to get $15 off a paid game!

To celebrate the v1.0 release of SHIFT, we are hosting a public game jam on itch.io! Read below for more details:
Get ready to work those creative muscles 💪
We invite you to use the SHIFT Open License to create a game or supplement compatible with SHIFT!
Submit your work to the game jam from April 27, 2026 until May 31, 2026!
What is a game jam?
- A game jam is an event where people come together to make games during a set time period (in this case, April 27 until May 31).
- Game jams often have themes, prompts, or are geared towards specific rule sets, such as SHIFT.
- Game jams are a way to join a community of creators and showcase your creativity!
Can I join the game jam even if I am not a game designer?
Yes, creators of all experience levels are welcome, including those who have never made a game before! If you want to dip a toe into game design, SHIFT is a great starting point.
